The Knife Festival has been held in Kauhava, in the region of South Ostrobothnia, since 1998. The Knife Festival is held every year a week before Midsummer. The program includes work demonstrations, a sales exhibition, and handicraft-related activities for the whole family.
The Kauhava Knife Festival has secured a well-established position among knife makers, collectors, those interested in craft traditions, and people who enjoy good entertainment. With our strong summer event, we aim to honor the craft heritage of previous generations and showcase contemporary craftsmanship skills.
Finnish Knife and Axe Throwers – FKAT
The Kauhava Knife Festival Association has established a committee called Finnish Knife and Axe Throwers, whose purpose is to promote the sport of knife throwing and organize knife throwing events and competitions in Finland. The committee is responsible for the operation of facilities for hobbyists of the sport.
Knife throwing is a sport that requires precision and concentration. Guidance and coaching for the sport are provided by Teemu Lahtinen and Toni Sillanpää in Kauhava. Regular practice sessions continue on Sundays starting at 12:00 at the training facilities (Leris Oy – Jylhäntie 26, 62200 Kauhava). Access to the facilities is via the stairs on the right side of the building up to the hall area. Voluntary track fee 5€.

Standard competitions based on U.K.A.T. rules.
Divisions:
Mountain Man: Tomahawk-style axe and Bowie knife — thrown from two distances at playing cards, with the combined score counted.
WalkBack: No Spin, Rotation, and Axe — distances to the target are 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7 meters.
Silhouette: No Spin, Rotation, and Axe — targets have 15 scoring rings on a board, each with a 10 cm diameter; throwing distance is 3 m.
Distance Throw: No Spin, Rotation, and Axe — longest throw wins.
Speed Throw: Any style — 20 seconds to throw as many knives as possible.
Quick Draw: The fastest knife stuck in the target wins.

The Plank: This competition is thrown from 3 m at a plank target. Targets are numbered 1–9, with 1 closest to the ground and 9 at the highest scoring area of the board.
